We are delighted to bring a diverse and fascinating programme to the 2018 World Congress of IMEKO.

Across the four main IMEKO programme days we have a range of outstanding keynote speakers. The sessions will take the form of lectures, workshops and round table discussions. The programme committee have worked hard to ensure the programme covers all areas of measurement ensuring there is something for everyone.

We are delighted that IMEKO will be collocated with two related conferences:  Sensors and their Applications 2018 hosted by the UK Institute of Physics and OFSIS 2018, the 3rd International Conference for Fibre-optic and Photonic Sensors for Industrial and Safety Applications.  Delegates registered for IMEKO will be able to attend any sessions of these two conferences as well.

Special sessions

Special Session/Workshop 1

Title: InGaAs Detectors for Radiometry and Radiation Thermometry

Chairman: Professor Graham Machin, NPL, United Kingdom


The use of silicon based photodiodes in precision radiometry and radiation thermometry is well established but they are limited in application to relatively short wavelength applications. To overcome this there is active research in deploying InGaAs detectors (which operate at longer wavelengths than silicon detectors) for these applications. This Special Session/Workshop at the IMEKO World Congress, sponsored by CCT Working Group on non-contact thermometry, will examine the benefits, pitfalls and deployment challenges of using InGaAs detectors.


Special Session/Workshop 2

Title: Torque Measurement in the MN∙m Range

Chairman: Dr-Ing Gisa Foyer, PTB, Germany


The MN∙m torque project deals with the need of torque calibration in the wind industry which is far beyond the capabilities of current facilities at national metrology institutes (NMIs). To bridge the gap between needs of industry and NMI facilities, different approaches such as simulation, extrapolation and a test calibration have been used. Moreover, different design layouts for multi-component transducers and force lever systems have been investigated.

The Special Session/Workshop will give an overview of the most recent outcome of the project which ends in August 2018. A short introduction to the objectives and plans of the project followed by technical presentations covering most of the project results are planned.
