The Institute of Measurement and Control is delighted to be hosting the IMEKO XXII World Congress, and is pleased to welcome speakers, delegates and exhibitors to the Waterfront Centre in Belfast. InstMC is the professional body in the United Kingdom for engineers and scientists engaged in measurement, sensors, automation and control.
At its founding in 1944 during the years of the second world war, InstMC members were primarily concerned with maintaining the integrity of the nation’s infrastructure.
Later, as the industrial base was re-generated, InstMC members pioneered the measurement, instrumentation and calibration technologies needed for the control of new large infrastructure installations such as oil and gas platforms, nuclear installations, transport networks and mass production factories.
Today, the Institute continues its involvement in major infrastructure facilities, but has expanded to embrace new sensor-based technologies including automation and robotics, the digital revolution and the Internet of Things. We have special interest groups covering:
The InstMC is incorporated by Royal Charter and welcomes professional engineers and scientists as corporate Members or Fellows. It is licensed by both the UK engineering council and science council for the registration of suitable qualified members as Chartered Engineers and Chartered Scientists.
Members receive recognition as professional practitioners in their field, and benefit from our wide range of activities including conferences, lectures and exhibitions organised nationally and locally, as well as our two peer-reviewed journals and our regular magazine Precision. We also welcome corporate members into our Companion Company Scheme
Our hosting of the IMEKO international congress and the inauguration of the National Festival of Measurement are two of our more prominent activities this year. For further information and news about what we do and for membership enquiries please visit our website www.instmc.org.
